About language availability on Medium

While Medium currently does not fully support non-English languages, Medium's interface is localized into several languages in our mobile apps.

Using Medium in your language

The desktop version of Medium is currently only available in English.

The interface of the Medium app for iOS and Android currently supports the following languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Spanish, French, German, Catalan, Dutch, Italian, and Turkish.

How can I change the app language?

If your app doesn't load in your language, you can easily change that in your phone settings.

iOS Android
  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Go to General and tap Language & Region.
  3. Tap Edit and move the language you'd like to use in the Medium app higher in the order.
  4. Reload the Medium iOS app.

If your system language is not supported, the app will use the supported language which is the highest on your language list.

Filtering content by language

Medium currently does not support a way to filter stories by language. You can use the search feature to find authors and publications that publish in your language, and follow them in order to receive their stories in your recommendations.

Writing in your language

While Medium is not fully localized yet, you can still publish stories in non-English languages on Medium.

Please note that the editor doesn't currently support right-to-left text direction.

Writing in the Medium Partner Program

Writers can still earn money through the Medium Partner Program by publishing stories in their language.
