About gift memberships

With membership gifting, you can gift a membership membership to another Medium user for one year.

Gift a membership

Access your Medium account and go to medium.com/gift-plans.
Enter the recipient's name, email address, as well as your contact information.
Click Continue to payment and choose your payment information.
Once payment is completed, the gift code will be sent to the recipient's email address at the scheduled time.

Can I gift a membership for one month?

At this time, gifting is only supported for annual membership plans.

Can I receive an invoice for my purchase?

Once the gift is purchased, you can generate an invoice from your billing history.

Do you offer group gifts?

If you need more than 11 gift memberships, please submit a ticket with us for further details.

Do gift codes expire?

Gift codes do not expire.

Redeem a membership code

Go to medium.com/redeem.
Enter your gift code and click Start my membership.

I already have an active membership membership. Can I use the gift I received?

The gift code can only be claimed by a Medium user without an active membership membership. If you are already a Medium member, cancel your membership to be able to redeem your gift code once your current membership ends.

On your homepage, click on your profile picture and click Settings.
In the Membership and payment section, click Cancel your membership.

Note: If you purchased your membership through iTunes or Google Play Store, you'll need to cancel your membership directly through that service.

On your phone or tablet, go to your phone's Settings > [your name] > iTunes & App Store.
Tap your Apple ID at the top of the screen.
Tap View Apple ID. You might need to sign in or use Touch ID.
Tap Subscriptions.
Tap Medium subscription from the list.
Tap Cancel subscription.

Note: Uninstalling the app or deleting your Medium account will not automatically cancel your membership membership purchased through iTunes. You must cancel your membership via iTunes to end the membership. If you uninstall the app or delete the account without canceling your membership, you will still be charged.

On your mobile device, open the Google Play app.
At the top right, tap the profile icon.
Tap Payments & subscriptions and tap Subscriptions.
Select the Medium subscription.
Tap Cancel subscription.
Follow the instructions.

Note: Uninstalling the app or deleting your Medium account will not automatically cancel your membership membership purchased through the Google Play Store. You must cancel your membership via the Google Play Store to end the membership. If you uninstall the app or delete the account without canceling your membership, you will still be charged.

How do I redeem a gift code in the Medium app?

There is no way to redeem your gift code directly in the Medium app. You can open the link medium.com/redeem in a web browser (either on a computer or mobile device) while logged in to your Medium account to redeem your code.

Do I need to connect a credit card to be able to redeem the code?

No. Redeeming a membership code activates a non-recurring membership plan for one year, and after that time it will cancel automatically unless you decide to renew it.
