Write your first story
Now, simply start writing. To add some basic formatting to your story, highlight a word or phrase. This will bring up a text toolbar:
(You can also use a number of keyboard shortcuts to control text formatting, like you would in a word processing program.)
To add an image, press enter on your keyboard, which will send your cursor to a new line.
On the left of the editor, a "+" sign will appear in a circle. Click on this to add an image, video, embed, or section break. A toolbar will slide out, and the "+" will turn into an "x." Click on the "camera" icon:
Select an image to upload from your computer. Your image will then be placed into your Medium story:
At the top of the image, you'll see an image toolbar with a few different options for placement. Play around with these until you find something you like.
When you're finished with your story, click on the "Publish" button at the top of the screen.
A confirmation window will pop up asking if you're "Ready to Publish?" Click "Publish" again.
Congratulations, you've just published your first story on Medium.
