Who can use this feature?
You need to join the Medium Partner Program to be able to earn money from your writing. Learn more.
As a writer in the Medium Partner Program, you can determine whether to make your posts eligible to earn money or not on a per-story basis. When you make a post eligible to earn money, it becomes accessible to members only and placed behind the paywall.
Publishing a new story to earn money
- Once you’re done writing your story, click Publish.
- Make sure the checkbox Paywall your story is checked.
- Click Publish now to publish your story.
- Once you’re done writing your story, tap Next.
- Enable the Members only option to make your story eligible to start earning money as part of Medium’s paywall.
- Tap Publish now to publish your story.
When your stories are paywalled, they will begin to accrue earnings based on Medium member activity: reading, listening, claps, highlights, and replies. Read more about how to calculate earnings here. You can track your progress in your Partner Program Dashboard.
Making a published story eligible to earn money
- Enter edit mode by visiting your story page, clicking the three-dot button in the top-right corner, and choosing Edit story.
- In edit mode, click the three-dot button in the top-right corner of the page.
- From the drop-menu, click Manage paywall setting.
- Select the option to make your story eligible to earn.
- Click Save. Your story is now eligible to earn money.
- Enter edit mode by visiting your story page, clicking the three-dot button in the top-right corner, and choosing Edit.
- In edit mode, tap Next in the top right corner to access the Story preview settings.
- Enable the Members only option to make your story eligible to start earning money as part of Medium’s paywall.
- Tap Publish now to publish your story.
