How editor earnings work

As an editor in the Editor Partner Program, you earn 25% of each claimed story's monthly earnings. This doesn't affect the writer's pay — their story earns the same amount regardless.

There's no cap on editor earnings.

What counts toward earnings

You earn on all paywalled stories you've claimed in your publication — not just curated or boosted ones.

How long you earn on a story

You earn on a story as long as it's paywalled and published in your publication. If the writer moves the story to another publication or removes it from the paywall, earnings stop.

What doesn't count

  • Stories you haven't claimed in the publication inbox
  • Stories published without an assigned editor
  • Your own stories

If you're both a writer and an editor

You can earn on your own paywalled stories through the Medium Partner Program. You can earn on other writers' stories through the Editor Partner Program. If your own story is published in your publication, you earn as a writer — but you don't earn the additional 25% as an editor.
