Claiming a story assigns you as its editor and is how you earn through the Editor Partner Program. You must claim a story before it's published — stories can't be claimed retroactively.
Before you start
Claiming stories is only available through the web. This feature isn't available in the Medium app.
How to claim a story
- Go to your publication's inbox.
- Find the story you want to claim.
- In the Editor column, select yourself as the assigned editor.
If you're the only editor at your publication, you still need to explicitly assign yourself — claims aren't automatic.
If you forget to assign an editor
If a story is published without an editor assigned, no editor earns for that story. This can't be corrected after publication.
Reassigning stories
Publication owners can assign or reassign stories to any editor at the publication.
