Leave the Medium Partner Program

You can leave the Medium Partner Program at any time from your Partner Program dashboard.

While enrolled in the Partner Program, you can still publish stories that are publicly accessible and not monetized. See Remove a story from the paywall for details.

How to leave the Partner Program

  1. On your homepage, click your profile picture.
  2. Select Partner Program from the menu.
  3. On your Partner Program dashboard, click Leave Partner Program.
  4. Type "Leave" in the text field to confirm.

What happens after you leave

Earnings and payouts

  • If your balance meets the $10 USD minimum at the next payout date, your payout will be sent at that time.
  • If your balance is below the $10 USD minimum, it will remain in your account for 180 days.
  • Any remaining balance will be forfeited if your enrollment stays inactive for 180 days.

Your stories

  • All paywalled stories will be immediately unlocked and made available to all readers.
  • Unlocked stories will no longer accrue earnings.
  • Future stories cannot be placed behind the paywall.

Your account

  • You will retain access to your Partner Program dashboard, including historical earnings and payment records.
  • You can re-apply to the Partner Program if you meet the eligibility requirements at the time of applying. Previously paywalled stories will not be re-added to the paywall automatically — you will need to make them eligible to earn again.

Removing your data from third-party services

Leaving the Partner Program does not automatically delete your data from Medium's third-party service providers.

  • Payment information (Stripe) — Stripe Standard users can delete their own account directly from the Stripe dashboard. Medium Support is unable to delete Stripe Standard accounts on your behalf. To delete a Stripe Express account with no pending balance, contact Medium Support.
  • Tax information (Tipalti) — Medium is unable to facilitate the deletion of tax information submitted during Partner Program enrollment. By law, the IRS may request proof of tax filings for up to 7 years. For more information on how your data is handled, see Tipalti's Privacy Policy.
