What personal information does Medium have about me?

How do I withdraw consent?

You can withdraw consent by deleting your account at any time through the Settings page.

Is my Medium profile public or private?

Medium profiles and account activity, such as claps, published posts and responses, follows and following, are public and discoverable by search engines. Posts may be set to unlisted, but anyone with a post URL will be able to see them.

Does Medium track me across the web?

Medium doesn’t track you across the Internet. We track only your interactions within the Medium network (which encompasses Medium.com and custom domains hosted by Medium).

Will Medium sell my personal information?

No. Medium won’t transfer information about you to third parties for the purpose of providing or facilitating third-party advertising to you. We won’t sell information about you.

How does Medium use cookies?

We use browser cookies and similar technologies to recognize you when you return to our Services. We use them in various ways, for example to log you in, remember your preferences (such as default language), evaluate email effectiveness, allow our paywall to function, and personalize content and other information.

Some third-party services that we use to provide the Medium Service, such as Google Analytics, may place their own cookies in your browser. Our Privacy Policy covers use of cookies by Medium only and not the use of cookies by third parties.

Does Medium make money from ads?

Medium doesn’t make money from ads. So we don’t collect data in order to advertise to you. The tracking we do at Medium is to make our product work and give you the best possible experience.

In what country does Medium store data?

Medium is based in the United States. By using Medium Services, you authorize Medium to transfer, store, and use your information in the United States and any other country where we operate.

How long does Medium retain my personal information?

Medium retains your personal information for the lifetime of your account. You may delete your account at any time from the Settings page, which will delete your personal information within several weeks, except to the extent prevented by law.

Why can’t I delete my Stripe or other payment account through Medium?

To protect your information, Medium only has minimal access to your payment details. To delete those accounts, you will need to contact that provider directly. This includes Stripe, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Play.

Does Medium comply with DNT?

Medium complies with the “Do Not Track” (“DNT”) standard recommended by the World Wide Web Consortium. For logged-out users browsing with DNT enabled, Medium’s analytics will not receive data about you, but we will do some first-party tracking in order to customize content and provide data to third-party service providers that enable Medium Services to work. When you use Medium while logged-in to your account, we cannot comply with DNT. Here’s some more information about Medium’s Do Not Track policy.

How do I file a complaint or object to the use of my personal information on Medium?

How do I file a complaint against Medium to the Supervisory Authority?

We urge you to contact us directly with any problems related to protection of your personal information on Medium at privacy@medium.com.

You may lodge a complaint regarding the processing of your personal data by Medium with the Supervisory Authority of your EU member state.
