Featured Stories is a new way for publication editors to prioritize stories to their followers. This has several benefits:
- Stories you feature have a higher likelihood of being recommended to your publication followers
- Featured stories are prioritized for our curation team to review for a possible Boost to get wider distribution
Featured Stories empower publication editors to have more control over Medium's distribution system. It's another way that the Medium feed is curated by real humans with subject-matter expertise.
How does Featuring work? Who can feature a story?
Publication editors can feature 1 story every 7 days. Publications can accrue up to 4 features at a time and can use these features whenever they like. To start, publications will receive 4 featured stories. After launch, publications will receive 1 feature every 7 days, meaning that publications can feature one story per week.
Featured stories should represent the best stories on your publications, and the ones you believe will resonate most with your publication's followers.
Publication editors can review all featured stories in a publication, including who featured the story and when, on the Featured Stories list page.
The number of stories a publication can feature is subject to change in the future.
What stories are eligible to be featured?
Any story in your publication is eligible for featuring. You will be unable to feature stories not published in your publication, so please ensure that any story you are trying to feature is already in your publication.
You cannot feature stories in their draft state, and you will only be able to feature post-publish. Paywalled and non-paywalled stories can both be featured.
