Setting a featured image on your post


To set an image as featured in your Medium story, use the featured image picker when you're publishing your post, behind the Publish button:

You can also select the image on your post with your cursor and press Shift + F on your keyboard.

Please note: You can only feature an image that is already added to your post. To learn more about adding images, see this article.

Your featured image will appear on your preview card when posting your story link on social media.

Set a focal point on your image

You can set a focal point on your image to crop your images better for social media thumbnails and preview image on Medium.


To set a focal point on your featured image:

  1. Hold Alt / Opt.
  2. Click on the image in the place where you want your focal point to be.
  3. The resulting green circle will serve as a focal point for automatic image cropping that appears in post listings and previews around the site.
