Using images

Adding images to your post will help you catch the reader's attention more easily.

Desktop

Add an image to your story

  1. On your post, go to a new line and click the  button on the left to expand the menu.
  2. Click the Image button to upload an image from your desktop.
    Click the Unsplash button to insert an image directly from Unsplash.

    You can also drag and drop your image directly into the post.
  3. Select the image and choose one of the placement options. Please note: your image must be at least 1192px wide for all placement options to appear.

The editor supports images up to 25MB in the .JPG, .JPEG, .GIF, and .PNG formats.

Delete an image

  1. Click on the image you want to delete for the green border to show up.
  2. Press Delete on your keyboard (Backspace if you're on Windows.)

Image alt text

You can also add alt text to your image that serves as brief description of this image for readers with visual impairments. To do that, click on your image and press the Alt text button.

Image captions

To add a caption to an image, click to select the image. Start typing your caption and it will appear beneath the image.

Please note: The option to italicize text is not supported for image captions.

Grids

To upload multiple images on Medium, select multiple images to upload. A grid will be automatically generated for your multiple images, with each in alphabetical order of their file names. You can drag and drop your images around your post to reorder them. Once you publish, readers will be able to click on each image independently to view a larger version.

Please note: the drag and drop feature is not supported on Firefox.

Image links

To make an image in your story a clickable link, click on it, giving it a green border, and then press Ctrl + K / Cmd + K.
