Create and manage lists

Lists are an easy way to quickly organize and share stories, from personal favorites to recommended reads within a topic or area of expertise to themed lists around stories that inspire you.

Adding a story to a list

Web and app
  1. When reading a story, click the   Save button.
  2. The story by default will be added to the Reading list. Select all the lists you want to add the story to. To remove the story from a list, deselect it.

Saving a list to your library

Web and app
  1. Open a public list that you want to add to your library.
  2. Click the   Save list button.

Your list will appear in the Saved lists tab.

Creating a new list

Web App
  1. On your homepage, click on   your profile picture.
  2. Click   Library from the menu.
  3. On the Library page, click the New list button to create a new list.
  4. Enter the name for your list and description (optional).
  5. Choose to make your list public or private.
    • Public lists can be shared with anyone and are visible on your profile page under the Lists tab.
    • Private lists cannot be accessed by anyone but you.
  6. Click Create to create your list.

Managing your lists

Desktop iOS & Android
  1. On your homepage, click on   your profile picture.
  2. Select   Library from the menu.
  3. Click the list you want to manage to open it.
  4. On the list page, you can:
    • Click the  three-dot button to Edit list info, make it private or public, reorder stories, or delete your list.
    • Add a note to appear above each story on the list.
    • Remove stories from your lists, or add them to your other lists.
    • Click the   Share button to share your list on social media or click Copy link to copy the direct link to the list.

Please note: "Reading list" is your default list which cannot be deleted.

Leaving responses

If you have a public list, other Medium users are able to leave responses on your list.

Web App
  1. Click the   Responses button at the bottom of the list page to open the response panel on the right side.
  2. Click What are your thoughts? to start composing your response.
  3. Click Respond to publish your response.

Managing responses

As the list creator, you have the ability to hide unwanted responses or close the response section so no further responses can be posted. Learn more.
