If you're contributing to a publication, you can submit your stories to the publication. Your story can only be published in one publication at a time.
Add a draft to a publication
- Open the story you want to submit a publication. Click the three-dot button at the top, then Edit story to enter the edit mode.
- In the edit mode, click the three-dot button in the top-right corner of the page to open your story settings.
- Select Add to publication from the dropdown list.
- Choose the publication you intend to submit to and click Save.
- If you are the owner or editor of the publication, then your draft will be immediately added to the publication as a draft. You must then click the “Publish” button at the top of the screen to publish your draft as a story in that publication.
If you are a writer for the publication, then your draft will not be immediately submitted to the publication. You must click the “Ready to submit?” button at the top of the page in order to send your draft to the publication editors for review. Then, the editors of that publication will have a chance to review your draft and schedule it for publishing.
- Open the draft you want to submit and enter the edit mode.
- Tap Next in the top-right corner of the page.
- Tap Add to publication.
- Choose the publication you want to submit to and confirm.
Note: The iOS app only allows you to submit to publications in which you are a publication editor. If you're a publication writer and want to submit a story to that publication, you'll need to do that from desktop.
Add a story to a publication
- Open the story you want to submit. Click the three-dot button at the top, then Edit story to enter the edit mode.
- In the edit mode, click the three-dot button in the top-right corner of the page to open your story settings.
- Select Add to publication from the dropdown list.
- Choose the publication you intend to submit to and click Save.
- If you are the owner or editor of the publication, then your story will be immediately added to the publication. Readers can view your story in the publication.
If you are a writer for the publication, then your story will be immediately submitted to the publication editors for review. The editors of that publication will have a chance to review your draft. Readers will not see your story in the publication until it is reviewed and added to the publication.
- Open the story you want to submit and enter the edit mode.
- Tap Next in the top-right corner of the page.
- Tap Add to publication.
- Choose the publication you want to submit to and confirm.
Note: To confirm that a story has been submitted to a publication, the writer must ensure that when in edit mode, the top-left corner of the story says “Submitted draft” or “Submitted story,” If the top-left corner says “Not yet submitted”, then the post is not yet submitted to the publication. In that case, the writer must first click the “Ready to submit?” button, followed by “Submit to publication.”
Note: Submitting posts to publications is not currently supported on Android.
Common questions
- Your post will use the publication’s URL, but will still be available on your profile.
- You will be credited as the author of the post and retain all rights to your content.
- If you are part of the Partner Program and the story is eligible for earning money, it will continue earning for member engagement as usual.
- You will be listed as a writer for that publication.
- Your post will be distributed in the feeds and digests of your followers, plus the followers of the publication.
- You and your editors will be able to edit, save changes, and view notes on your post. You will not receive notification of published changes.
- Your original pre-publication URL will still point to your post.
- You can remove your post at any time.
You need to be a publication writer or editor in order to be able to submit stories to that publication. You will only see the publications you can submit stories to. If you want to join a publication, you would need to reach out to the publication editors. You can check the publications you are part of on your Publications page.
